Queens native Shaheen Holloway, a former All Big East guard at Seton Hall, was named an assistant yesterday by Pirates coach Bobby Gonzalez. Holloway, a former McDonald’s All-American at St. Patrick’s (N.J.), played in the ABA last season for the Newark Express.

In 2000, Holloway led the Pirates to the NCAA Sweet 16, their lone appearance there since 1991-92. His 1,588 points are 12th on the school’s all-time list.

“Shaheen is a guy who is eager to get into coaching and I wanted to tap into the Seton Hall family,” Gonzalez said. “Shaheen is a link to the past. Coming back to his alma mater, he is a guy who can point to how he benefited from Seton Hall and present that to our players.”

Gonzalez completed his staff by hiring former Marist assistant Stephen Sauers as director of operations. They join Dermon Player, Geoff Billet and Kevin Murphy.
