Houston may have won Friday’s Independence Bowl, but Gavin Hawk won the people’s hearts.

The Cougars’ football equipment manager, and his mullet, went viral on Friday for his antics while retrieving kickoff tees during Houston’s 23-16 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La. on Friday.

Hawk, who is known aptly as Big Hawk, could be seen rushing in the fourth quarter sprinting toward a tee, bellyflopping, and then retreating toward the Cougars’ sideline during Friday’s bowl game. Once back in home territory, Hawk let out a roar with a tee in hand.

The burly tee retriever wooed over college football fans last year, too, with Houston’s Director of Creative Media Jordan Burgess calling Big Hawk “an electric factory.”

With Hawk’s energy, the Cougars improved to an 8-5 record to end off the 2022 season.
