Two Tigers teams enter. Only one will leave week one of the 2025 season unbeaten.

On Saturday, Aug. 30, Kade Clubnik’s No. 4-ranked Clemson Tigers host Garrett Nussmeier’s No. 9 LSU Tigers in a rematch of the 2020 national championship at Clemson, SC’s Clemson Memorial Stadium.

Clemson is coming into the season following an exceptional 2024 campaign where the team finished 10-4. Spirits were high until Dabo Swinney’s club fell 38-24 to eventual CFP semifinalist Texas Longhorns in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Thankfully, every starter from last year’s roster is returning this season including the aforementioned Klubnik, who is a major Heisman Trophy contender.

As for their opponents, Brian Kelly’s LSU finished 2024 on a high note. Although the club didn’t qualify for the postseason, Nussmeier and co. took Baylor down 44-31 in the Texas Bowl on New Year’s Eve. An upset over Clemson today — they haven’t won their first game of the season since 2019 — would be huge for the squad and likely propel the team a few spots up the AP top 25 rankings.
