Texas and Clemson ended their 2024 regular seasons on different notes.

To close the year, the No. 3 Longhorns lost a 22-19 heartbreaker in overtime to the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game. Steve Sarkisian’s squad finished the year with an impressive 11-2 record but the defeat meant Quinn Ewers and the team missed out on their first-round College Football Playoff bye.

As for the No. 12 Tigers, they wrapped their 10-3 2024 campaign with a shocking 34-31 win over SMU netting them the ACC title. Quarterback Cade Klubnik completed 24 of 41 passes for four touchdowns and 262 yards to secure a spot for the South Carolina club.

All that being said, Texas comes into this showdown as the likely favorite. “Texas is flawed itself, but the Longhorns have the best defense in college football,” 247 Sports proclaimed. “That’s a problem for a Clemson o-line that continues to be banged up. This is close for a while, but Texas manages to pull away late. … Texas 34, Clemson 21.”
