HOYAS AVOID UPSET OPENER
WASHINGTON – Georgetown raised its Final Four banner from last season and then raised its game in the second half yesterday to beat William & Mary 68-53.
“I asked them before the game, ‘Do we need to talk about Kentucky?’ ” said Georgetown coach John Thompson III, referring to the Wildcats’ loss to Gardner-Webb. “They said, ‘No.’ So we didn’t.”
Roy Hibbert scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the No. 5 Hoyas.
