There were hugs and back slaps for Todd Hundley in the visitor’s clubhouse before last night’s 3-0 Cub win – and they came not only from his friends on the Mets, but from his own Chicago teammates.

Hundley, the former popular Mets’ catcher who’s now a Cub, has been away from the team trying to rehab a lower-back injury that’s had him on the DL.

Hundley, who’s batting .179 with 4 HRs and 19 RBIs, has been on a rehab stint with the team’s Double-A outfit in Jackson, Tenn., and will continue rehabbing with Triple-A Iowa.

Cub manager Don Baylor, however, wanted Hundley with the team in between assignments to take a closer look at him.

Hundley, who took batting practice last night, said, “I’ll be back after the [All-Star] break.”
