Those investigating Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer’s handling of domestic violence allegations against his former receivers coach have yet to contact the man accused, Zach Smith.

Smith’s attorney said investigators have not sought to interview his client, according to USA Today. The investigation, which is expected to last 14 days, opened last Sunday.

Ohio State placed Meyer on paid administrative leave last week after text messages from Smith’s wife, Courtney, obtained by reporter Brett McMurphy, appeared to show that Meyer’s wife, Shelley, was aware of the allegations. Meyer released a statement last Friday denying any wrongdoing and saying he passed information up to his superiors. Smith was accused of shoving his wife against the wall with his hands around her neck.

Courtney Smith said Zach had abused her on and off since 2009 and since 2015 she had been openly discussing the alleged beatings with the wives of the Ohio State coaching staff. At Big Ten Media Day last week, Meyer said he would have fired Smith, who was let go last month, three years ago if he had known of the accusations.

It’s unclear why Smith, who has also denied wrongdoing, has yet to be interviewed. But, as of Thursday, the independently led investigative team has no plans to do so, per USA Today.

With the investigation expected to conclude in the next two weeks, many Ohio State fans have come to Meyer’s defense, rallying for the 2014 title-winning coach outside of Ohio Stadium earlier this week.
