Fernando Jara sent favored Day Pass to the lead and never looked back as they won the $112,900 Grade 3 Nashua Stakes at Aquaduct by 4½ lengths. Sightseeing closed to finish second and Xchanger was third. Kiaran McLaughlin trained the Darley Stable-owned 2-year old, who ran the mile in 1:36.09 and paid $6.10 to win.
Successful Outlook made a four-wide move to the lead on the far turn and then edged away from Spectacular Malibu to win the $106,200 Grade 3 Tempted Stakes by 1½ lengths. Favored Five Star Daydream was another 33/4 lengths back in third. Joe Bravo rode the Scott Blasi trainee to victory, running the mile in 1:37.36.
1ST RACE – King Hoss has always been hard to handle, but Mike Smith handles him well. King Hoss led every step of the way while racing well off the rail to easily defeat these conditioned claimers. Maasstricht lost all chance when stumbling at the start.
4TH RACE – Favored Teton broke on top but then slowly started to fade to the back of the pace while racing on the rail. In the stretch drive, Fernando Jara angled Teton outside, and she found new life, finishing full of run to get up to be third. Looks like she doesn’t like being inside, and distance should not be a problem for her. Sambuca Classica lost all chance to win when she had to check severely when put into tight quarters when entering the far turn.
6TH RACE – On paper the race was filled with speed and set up perfectly for a closer. Contante was able to come off the pace and narrowly gain the victory over the much-improved Baron Von Tap.
7TH RACE – Eibar Coa won his fourth race of the afternoon as Time To Rap stalked the pace and drew away in the stretch for the victory. Tough To Follow was full of run racing behind Time To Rap but could only get up to be third.
9TH RACE – Jara completed the late double and hoped that his final race today on Invasor for Kiaran McLaughlin produces the same winning result he got here as Polo Grounds came charging down the stretch for the victory. River Mountain Rd finished with good energy to get up for the place spot.
