JASPERS’ ASSISTANT REAL WIZ
After looking to the Big East for a head coach, Manhattan College went to the NBA to find an assistant.
Barry Rohrssen named Ron Ganulin, the coordinator of player development for the Washington Wizards, to his staff yesterday. Ganulin is a New York native who coached St. Francis (N.Y.) – Rohrssen’s alma mater – from 1991-2005.
“Ron is a person of high character whose experience and credentials will be an asset,” said Rohrssen, who left Pitt for Riverdale last month.
Ganulin was also a four-year assistant at UNLV. While on the bench, the Runnin’ Rebels won the 1990 national championship and went 126-23.

Andre Tarver knows what’s ahead of him. The 6-foot-2 guard from Wings Academy, who on Monday gave a verbal commitment to Iona after being released from his letter of intent with Manhattan, understands he won’t be well received when he steps into Draddy Gymnasium as a Gael.
“I’m prepared to hear all types of things,” he said with a laugh. “But it comes with the territory. The way I look at basketball is, once you leave high school, everything is a business. And that will be just another part of the business.”
