Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak was surprised to hear Phil Jackson claim on national TV he’d make his decision “in a day or two.” Jackson indicated the Lakers were the frontrunners.

“I don’t know what that meant either,” Kupchak said, adding sarcastically, “if we’re in his plans and ends ups being the coach of the Lakers, that’s great. Then we’ll have our coach in the next day or two.”

Unlike Isiah Thomas, Kupchak said he wants his coach set “preferably before the draft.”
