Derek Jeter didn’t add a fifth World Series ring for his thumb this October. But on the individual award circuit, the Yankees shortstop is cleaning up.

With the Hank Aaron Award already bagged and the AL MVP a strong possibility, Jeter added his third straight Gold Glove yesterday.

“The Gold Glove Award means a great deal to me,” Jeter said in a statement released by the Yankees. “Fielding doesn’t get much headlines but it’s a big part of the game of baseball. I take great pride in my defense and to be recognized with a Gold Glove for three straight seasons is a great honor that I will always cherish.”

George Steinbrenner said he hopes Jeter’s Gold Glove precedes a bigger honor.

“I am very proud of Derek, I hope he wins the MVP,” The Boss said in a statement released by PR guru Howard Rubenstein. “He is a great Yankee and a great leader.”
