Keith Van Horn lost as much as $30 million. And yet he sound completely satisfied.

“Well, to tell you the truth,” Van Horn said, “I’d rather lose $30 million than be a guy making so much that there was no one lese around on the team. I’d rather take less, much less, and win a championship than break the bank and be on a team that was nowhere.”

Van Horn, the Nets’ 23-year-old, 6-10 cornerstone, would have been sailing toward early free agency after this season and woul dhave almost assuredly glided past the $100 million plateau. But the NBA owners took a look at thier bank books and locked out the players to get a better deal.
