Everton boss David Moyes confirmed today that he wanted to bring Landon Donovan back to the English Premier League in the January transfer window but feared the MLS star might be burned out from too much soccer.
Donovan enjoyed a successful short-term spell at Goodison Park last season, and, although no contact was yet made, Moyes said, “We would be [interested in securing the loan]. We have said it every time I get asked. I get asked regularly about it, but Landon has just finished his season.”
Earlier this week, the U.S. National Team star said he had yet to make a decision on whether to come to Europe next year after completing his MLS commitments with the L.A. Galaxy.
Moyes said he would understand if the 28-year-old sought a quieter offseason, adding, “He’s been on the go for nearly two years with the World Cup and coming here. What he needs is a break, and after that, he will decide what to do.”
