Whatever Lane Kiffin has to say about his future is seemingly news to him.
The Ole Miss coach, at the center of rumors regarding his future in Oxford for weeks, says he has not made up his mind, with a decision slated to be announced Saturday.
“No, I haven’t, I have a lot of praying to do to figure that out tomorrow,” he said when asked on the ABC broadcast in the moments after the Rebels’ 38-19 Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State.
“Right now, I’m just going to go enjoy these players. I told them last night, you’re going to win your 11th game and what I want to do is experience the joy watching you and that’s what I’m about to do.”

“There’s a lot into it,” Kiffin said. “It’s a hard decision. You guys have them all the time. You’ve got to make decisions about jobs you take and where you move and we get paid a lot so I understand we’re under a lot of spotlight and scrutiny.”
Heading into the rivalry week matchup, Kiffin had already long been the biggest name attached to rumors around job openings at LSU and Florida.
Florida reportedly moved on in its search to replace Billy Napier, citing “irregular communication” from the coach, according to ESPN.
That leaves LSU, which is seeking a new coach after it fired Brian Kelly in October, and reportedly has discussed a seven-year, $90 million deal for Kiffin.
Ole Miss brass has said it would match any offer made to its coach, who has led the Rebels program to its highest College Football Playoff ranking in history.
The coach, however, will look elsewhere for guidance, citing his late father Monte as someone he wished to lean on in the moment. Pete Carroll and Nick Saban, his former bosses and mentors, will have to do.
“I miss my dad,” an emotional Kiffin said. “I really missed him this week. My two calls will be the closest to that for advice, what my dad would say to do on these things. That’ll be Coach Carroll and Coach Saban. Kind of wish when you have things to do in life, that your dad was there. But it is what it is.”
If it was his final game in Oxford, it came with plenty of fireworks.
Kiffin went viral during the game for his response to an on-field fracas between the teams, calling out Mississippi State athletic director Zac Selmon for his antics, and then made headlines again after the game in calling out a reporter over his earlier characterization of the coach’s situation in which the reporter said, “you can’t turn a ho into a housewife.”
Ole Miss is now stuck in purgatory, at least when it comes to its coach. The Rebels’ season is looking rock solid, however. After Friday’s win, they sit at 11-1 and have a reported 99.9% chance of making the postseason.
Kiffin walked off the field with chancellor Glenn Boyce and Ole Miss players raised the Egg Bowl trophy high and lit up cigars.
Whatever other celebrations the school and team have planned in the wake of its beatdown of the Bulldogs will eventually be muted by the Kiffin decision the sports world is awaiting.
