Willie Taggart is out at Florida State, and one of the most high-profile jobs in the country is available. Naturally, one of college football’s most recognizable faces wants to throw his hat into the ring.

Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin has interest in the open Seminoles head coaching position, according to CBS Sports. Kiffin, 44, landed his first job as the wunderkind coach of the Oakland Raiders 13 years ago, and then was head coach of Tennessee and USC, before turning Alabama into an offensive powerhouse as coordinator. Since feuding with Nick Saban and leaving the Crimson Tide, Kiffin has gone 22-13 with the Owls.

Other candidates to replace Taggart — who went 9-12 with the Seminoles, and will receive a $17 million buyout to leave the former juggernaut program — include Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck, Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell, Kentucky’s Mark Stoops, Washington State’s Mike Leach and Clemson coordinators Brent Venables and Tony Elliott.

Odell Haggins, currently in his 26th year on the Florida State staff, is serving as the interim coach. Last season, the Seminoles (4-5) didn’t appear in a bowl game for the first time since 1981, and the same fate could strike again. Only six years ago, Florida State won the national championship.
