LJ WON’T HAVE BACK SURGERY
Larry Johnson will not need back surgery after all, The Post has learned.
Frustrated by another pain-wracked season, LJ said following the Knicks’ playoff elimination he was leaning toward minor back surgery for his herniated disc. Johnson, who has never had back surgery despite the chronic pain, hoped the surgery would lessen the discomfort next season.
However, Johnson got examined at USC two weeks ago by Dr. Robert Watkins, who recommended against surgery. An MRI was taken on LJ’ s back and the troubled disc was no worse off than prior offseasons. Had Johnson undergone surgery, he may have needed up to two months of rehab.
