This time Louisville is walking away from Bobby Petrino.

The university could not wait any longer, firing its head coach during a lost year with two games still to play, Yahoo Sports first reported Sunday. The 2-8 Cardinals have been a disaster, most recently getting annihilated by Syracuse, 54-23, on Friday. Petrino is owed a $14.1 million buyout, according to ESPN.

This was Petrino’s second stint at Louisville — he had left in 2007 for an ill-fated cup of coffee with the Falcons.

In his second go-round, he just never won enough, even with Lamar Jackson at quarterback. And once Jackson left, the team spiraled. From 2014-18, Petrino went 36-26.
