Police in Utah have arrested a 22-year-old man for the shooting death of Utes football player Aaron Lowe late last month.

Buk M. Buk has been charged with aggravated murder, attempted murder, and felony discharge of a firearm, according to a news release Sunday by the Salt Lake City police department.

The 21-year-old Lowe, a sophomore cornerback, was fatally shot in the early-morning hours of Sept. 26 at a house party in the Sugar House section of Salt Lake City. Buk was arrested Sunday in Draper, Utah, according to the police report.

“In a time of need, we turned to our community. We asked people to come forward and to share the information they had,” Salt Lake City police chief Mike Brown said in a statement. “Because of those tips and the unrelenting pursuit of justice from our homicide detectives, we have arrested the person accused of murdering Aaron Lowe. So many lives have been impacted from this senseless shooting.”

A 20-year-old woman also remains in critical condition after being shot during the incident.

Lowe, a Texas native, had been the first recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial scholarship earlier this year, which was created to honor another former Utah player, Ty Jordan, who was killed in an accidental shooting in Dec. 2020.

Lowe had switched his number this season from No. 2 to his former teammate’s No. 22. NBA All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell wore a No. 22 Jazz jersey at practice on Saturday to honor both players.

“I wanted to pay my respects,” Mitchell said, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. “I’m not going to switch my number, it’s just that the Utes and all of Utah have paid their respects, to not just Aaron, but Ty, as well. I just wanted to pay my respects in my own way. That was the premise of it.”
