Bobby Gonzalez, who was the top assistant to Pete Gillen at the University of Virginia, will be introduced as the men’s basketball head coach at Manhattan during a press conference this morning.

The 35-year-old Gonzalez, a New York native, coached at the New York city high school level from 1988-93. He first led St. Nicholas of Tolentine and then Rice.

He next coached with Gillen at Xavier and Providence, spending ’94-’98 with the Friars. He graduated from Division III Buffalo State in 1986.

Gonzalez replaced John Leonard, who was fired at the of the season.
