It didn’t take Maria Sharapova long to realize Jimmy Connors was not the right coach for her.
Sharapova fired Connors after losing to Sloane Stephens in Cincinnati, according to a Times of London report. It was her first match under the former American tennis star.
“It’s not the right fit for this time in my career,” Sharapova said in a statement emailed to Tennis.com.
Sharapova had fired former coach Thomas Hogstedt after being eliminated at Wimbledon. It now appears she will enter the U.S. Open, which starts Aug. 26 in Flushing Meadows, without a coach.
