Masiello hired at Manhattan
Let the Riverdale rebuilding begin.
Louisville assistant Steve Masiello was named Manhattan’s new head basketball coach yesterday. He takes over from Barry Rohrssen, who was fired after going 6-25 this season, running his record to 59-85 in five years.
Prior to his six-year tenure at Louisville, Masiello, a native of White Plains, was an assistant with the Jaspers from 2001-05. He will be introduced at a press conference tomorrow afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium.
“I am honored and humbled to be the next coach of Manhattan College,” Masiello said in a statement. “I am eager to lead the Jaspers back to prominence as being a premier program in the conference, and re-establishing our rich tradition and winning history.”
Masiello, 33, helped instill success in his stay on the sidelines, with the Jaspers making appearances in two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT, posting an 83-36 record.
The 33-year-old graduated from Kentucky in 2000, appearing in two national championship games, winning it in 1998.
