The ripple effects of the Big East Conference’s latest expansion are being felt in coaching circles in the East.

Louisville coach Rick Pitino has hired Manhattan assistant Steve Masiello to help the Cardinals – who begin play in the Big East in the upcoming season – recruit the metopolitan area.

Louisville, led by New York native Francisco Garcia, recently completed a run to the Final Four.

Pitino, a former star guard at St. Dominic on Long Island and former Knicks coach, is sure to make his presence felt in the Big East. Masiello helped Manhattan coach Bobby Gonzalez get some of the top New York players to choose the Jaspers over some higher profile programs.

To fill the void created by the loss of Masiello, The Post has learned that Manhattan will announce the hiring of Phil Martelli Jr., the son of St. Joseph’s coach Phil Martelli.

Martelli Jr., who was an assistant at Central Connecticut State, helped run Howie Dickerman’s basketball school and is well connected in recruiting circles.
