The boys of Massapequa Coast have become the pride and joy of Long Island, and are set to kick off their quest to capture the Little League World Series title against the heavily favored 2018 championship team from Honolulu.
A series of errors and mistakes cost Massapequa Coast Little League its first appearance in the Little League World Series on Friday night in Williamsport, Pa. Hawaii took an early lead against the Long Island squad and kept the momentum going, blowing out Massapequa Coast, 12-0 in the opening game of the double-elimination tournament. The game ended with a mercy rule after the conclusion of the fifth inning. A mix of blunders in the outfield combined with Massapequa Coast’s pitcher Joey Lionetti’s struggles on the mound resulted in an easy win for Honolulu.Photos from Massapequa Coast's heartbreaking loss against Hawaii

Hawaii kept up its offense during Friday's match.
Kaeo Nouchi drove in Daly Watson to stretch Hawaii's lead to 11-0. A walk from Massapequa Coast's Lucas Mininni on Hawaii full bases drove in Kama Angell for Honolulu's 12th run.
Massapequa Coast's Anthony Badagliacca struck out Esaiah Wong to end the fifth inning.
Esaiah Wong's three-run dinger and a Jaron Lancaster sacrifice fly grew Hawaii's lead 10-0 against Massapequa Coast.
The homer drove in Cohen Sakamoto and Jonnovyn Sniffen. Luke Hiromito ran in to score Hawaii's 10th run.
Massapequa Coast's Lucas Mininni is pitching and remains in the top of the fifth with two outs.
An error from Massapequa Coast put them back another point in the top of the fourth inning, with Hawaii's Jaron Lancaster scoring on a Daly Watson grounder.

Hawaii currently leads Long Island's own 6-0.
Massapequa Coast is still scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth.
Hawaii's Kekoa Payanal ran it back with another home run in the top of the fourth inning.
The two-run dinger stretched Hawaii's lead 5-0.

Jaron Lancaster showed he has a cannon of an arm -- and of a bat.
The Hawaii ace smashed a home run into center field, increasing Honolulu's lead to 3-0.
And now Honolulu's Lancaster knocked one over the centerfield wall, giving his team a 3-0 advantage over Massapequa.

The righty has kept Massapequa Coast scoreless through three innings.
Massapequa Coast can't get a hit off against Hawaii's ace Jaron Lancercaster.
The righty pitcher has thrown five total strikeouts so far with just one walk.
