If you want to hear about Dan Patrick’s golf game or whether Tracy McGrady is going to buzz Dan on his cell phone, then ESPN Radio’s “The Dan Patrick Show” is for you. Basically, there is a lot of Dan on Dan.

While the program gets big-name interviews, it is overshadowed by Patrick’s ego.

On TV, Patrick is one of the best SportsCenter anchors, maybe even the top one. His style fits the program precisely.

What less-talented anchors haven’t learned is that the jokes and lines are fine, but they need to be rationed. Patrick doesn’t overdue it.

Another mark of his ability is that even though he has come up with many a phrase that has caught on with viewers, he doesn’t lean on those lines too heavily.
