Things could not have gone better for the Rangers on Tuesday night — they beat the seventh-seeded Canadiens 3-1. The Panthers, who were tied with the Rangers for eighth, lost 2-1 to the Flyers.

So, the Rangers need a win over those Flyers tonight or a loss by the Panthers to the Thrashers — both games start at 7 p.m. — to lock down a spot in the postseason. But the Blueshirts should pay little mind to what’s going on in Atlanta and take care of business at Madison Square Garden. No one likes to back in to the playoffs, especially a Rangers team desperately in need of some momentum if they want to be a threat in the playoffs, where they would face either the top-seeded Bruins or the No. 2 Capitals.

And forgetting about momentum for a second, do the Rangers really want to have the pressure of clinching a playoff spot on the season’s final day (Sunday) when they play the Flyers again, but this matchup is in Philadelphia. The last time the Rangers were in the “City of Brotherly Love” they were torched by the Flyers, 4-2.

So forget about what’s going on in Atlanta and Boston (where the Canadiens play the Bruins) and just win a game you should win tonight Rangers.
