The MetroStars’ search for a forward to replace Clint Mathis ended with 5-8, 145-lb. Argentine Sergio Galvan Rey, who signed a three-year deal and will arrive in time for the home opener April 17 vs. D.C. United.

The 30-year-old nicknamed The King of Goals has tallied 171 times in eight years with Colombian club Once Caldas. He’s the Metros’ third and final Senior International, as the club used its allocation and cash from the sale of Tim Howard, about $400,000, to land him.

“Sergio’s a very exciting forward and we are happy to bring him to the MetroStars. He has a true eye for the goal and his experience and leadership will be invaluable,” said coach Bob Bradley, who’s still trying to land Trinidad forward Cornell Glenn on a Discovery allocation.

They still have has cap room and an allocation from losing Mathis to add a player before the transfer window closes Wednesday.
