The Mets announced last night they have reached agreement with Rey Sanchez on a the structure of a contract, pending the results of a physical on Monday.

Sanchez, an infielder who played with Boston last season, can play second base, shortstop, and third.

It was previously believed the Mets also were interested in third baseman Bill Mueller, but GM Steve Phillips had not spoken with Mueller’s representative as of 5 p.m. yesterday.
