The Mets were still waiting on outfielder Tsuyoshi Shinjo to come to terms with them as of yesterday afternoon. The two sides are close to agreement on a deal of one year in the $600,000 range.

The Mets had given Shinjo the chance to receive a second option year, but it appears he will decline it. Asked if the choice is now Shinjo’s to make, a baseball official said, “That’s pretty much accurate.”

Shinjo’s agent is on vacation and Shinjo is in his offseason home in Japan, which has lengthened – if not complicated – the negotiations.
