ESPN New York’s “The Michael Kay Show” is primed to win the fall book after taking another month from WFAN’s “Carton & Roberts,” according to Nielsen Audio Ratings for 25-54 males, the category the stations traditionally focus on for advertising.

For this past month, the Kay Show had a ratings share of 6.0, good for third in the overall rankings, while Carton & Roberts had a 5.1 (tied for fourth in the market).

Overall, after two months, the Kay Show (5.7 share, fourth in the market) leads C&R (4.3 share, ninth in the market).

Two months are akin to six innings of a nine inning game. WFAN would need an incredible comeback in the final month to win the fall book.

Meanwhile, FAN’s anchor, “Boomer & Gio,” beat ESPN New York’s combo of Rothenberg & DiPietro and Keyshawn, JWill & Max from 6-10 a.m. Boomer & Gio’s rating were first in the market with a 7.2 share, while ESPN New York was ninth (4.1).

DiPietro and Rothenberg held their own against WFAN’s warm-up show, which features Al Dukes and Jerry Recco (5-6 am) and Boomer and Gio during DiPietro and Rothenberg’s 5-8 am slot. ESPN was second in the market (9.5-6.2) behind FAN.

From 10-2, WFAN’s Moose & Maggie defeated ESPN New York’s combo of “Greeny” and “Bart & Hahn.” In that slot, FAN had a 4.9 share (fifth) to ESPN New York’s 3.1 (T13th)

From 2-3 p.m., Craig Carton and Evan Roberts did get a win when it went up against Bart Scott and Alan Hahn with a 8.4-3.4 (second to 13th) advantage.

However, Kay, Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg quickly erased FAN’s edge when it went head-to-head with Carton and Roberts.
