Mike Francesa is now losing a war with the person who watches him the closest.
The Twitter account Funhouse, which is run anonymously and documents Francesa, took issue with the radio loudmouth’s characterization of video that showed him questioning the character of draft pick Corey Ballentine.
Ballentine was shot and his friend Dwane Simmons was killed outside a party in Kansas on Saturday night.
“Boomer [Esiason] killed Mike this morning about these comments, so of course Mike called in to him to say that they only heard a portion of what he actually stated. Sigh. The ENTIRETY of what Mike said about the young man is represented above,” Funhouse wrote.
“Again, the first clip was from the morning show on his app. It was VERY brief. Part two was from his regular WFAN program later in the day. It would be neat if Mike would be accountable for the things he says instead of blaming others. Lastly, Mike screamed at Boomer & Gio about how I ‘left out’ the part (in the original clip that went viral) where he said ‘IF’ the kid was doing something wrong. Here is the full segment from yesterday morning. Please let me know what I “left out”…”
Francesa has been widely criticized for the comments and that spread to his rivals and colleagues at WFAN on Monday morning. Francesa called in, insisting they lacked context while screaming at Esiason and Gregg Giannotti.
Francesa said he used the word “if’ in his comments, as to explain why the offensive was acceptable.
“Listen, you can have an off-field incident with any draft pick any time any time. But when you finish your draft and stress how you went out of your way to take the right kind of guys, guys that you want on the team, guys that are going to be great character guys and you stress that as strongly as the Giants did, it looks pretty bad when one of them shots get on Saturday night,” Francesa said. “It does not look good. It’s just more of the same for the Giatns, who just can’t get out of their own way no matter what they say.”
There was no “if” involved.
