High Oak, co-owned by former radio giant Mike Francesa, looked strong sitting chilly off the pacesetters in the Fountain of Youth Stakes on Saturday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

He found himself in tight quarters about a ¹/₄ mile from home and clipped heels with another contender, Galt. Both horses went down, throwing their riders. The horses got up and ran off, and they are said to be OK.

Both Joel Rosario and Junior Alvarado took off their mounts in the nightcap. Alvarado may miss some time with a left ankle/leg injury.

The spill enabled Simplification ($7) to simply draw away to win the Fountain of Youth and punch his ticket to the Kentucky Derby.

It’s not “ovah” for Francesa’s High Oak. He will be evaluated and could reload in a month in the Florida Derby.

Two other Derby preps were run Saturday. Morello ($4) won the Gotham in convincing fashion at Aqueduct. And in the matchup of Derby hopefuls out west, Bob Baffert’s Doppelganger was no match for Richard Mandella’s Forbidden Kingdom ($4) in the San Felipe at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif.
