Coach K offered a banner response to critics over Duke’s recent slump.
The Blue Devils defeated N.C. State, 88-69, Monday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium, but Mike Krzyzewski fired back afterward at those questioning him and this year’s squad after the perennial power had dropped three of its previous four ACC games.
“I mean, you can question my coaching and what the hell — and then when you do question it … just come into Cameron and look up in the ceiling, and then find out if you should question that,” Krzyzewski said on the Duke postgame radio show after the win, according to 247Sports. “But don’t do anything with our players. Just support ‘em.”
The 73-year-old Krzyzewski is the all-time leader in coaching wins in Division I history with 1,153, leading Duke to five national championships and a dozen Final Four appearances.
Despite losing lottery picks Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish from last year’s team, the Blue Devils are in third place in the ACC standings with a 14-5 record and 24-6 overall.
But losses to N.C. State, Wake Forest and Virginia in late February dropped the Blue Devils from No. 7 to No. 12 in the latest AP Top 25 poll. The program hasn’t advanced past the Elite Eight since winning the national championship in 2015.
Monday’s win over N.C. State — led by freshman Cassius Stanley’s 18 points — avenged a Feb. 19 road loss in which the Wolfpack fans stormed the court in Raleigh.
“This was a really big win for us,” Krzyzewski added Monday night in his postgame press conference. “As big of a win as we’ve had all year.”
