MET NOTES
SAN FRANCISCO – There may be some leftover action following Thursday night’s escapades between the Mets and Rockies.
At least off the field, anyway.
MLB disciplinary czar Bob Watson told The Post yesterday that his office is looking into the matter to determine if anyone will be punished.
“We’re investigating and that’s all I’ll say at this point in time,” Watson said. “We’re looking into it.”
The likely candidates for discipline are Colorado catcher J.D. Closser, who took out Joe McEwing with a vicious slide the Mets felt was dirty, and Mets closer Braden Looper, who drilled Closser on the right leg in retaliation and was ejected. Mets manager Art Howe could also face consequences.
Is there a possibility of suspensions? “I won’t even go there,” Watson said. “We’re investigating.”
McEwing was likely headed for the DL yesterday afternoon.

Amid reports that seldom-used John Franco has approached the Mets about potentially releasing him to make room for a younger reliever, Franco’s agent, Dan Horwits, downplayed the situation.
“It was just a conversation he had with the Mets, just about his role on the team,” Horwits said.
About a week ago, Franco expressed his frustration to The Post that he’s pitched just once since July 26. Horwits said he was unaware of Franco’s asking to be released.

Al Leiter threw a season-high 127 pitches on Thursday. Was the 38-year-old feeling all right afterwards? “As crummy as if I threw 87,” Leiter said, grinning.
Leiter’s reaction was encouraging, but he’s worth keeping an eye on in his next start. Back on May 6, he threw 126 pitches and his next start, a 79-pitch outing vs. Arizona, was his last before going on the DL for nearly a month with shoulder tendinitis.

Vance Wilson went into last night’s game against the Giants batting .297, more than 50 points over last year’s .243, and is on pace for his average since batting .298 in a 57-at-bat stint in 2001. “I feel like every at-bat I’ve had is quality,” Wilson said.
