Kemalie Preston’s header off a John Alvarez throw-in with 12 minutes left gave Martin Luther King a 1-0 win over Aviation to lead the school to its ninth straight PSAL championship game appearance.

“We didn’t know we’d have a team this year,” said head coach Martin Jacobson, who believes that despite the Department of Education’s reorganization of the school, that MLK’s program is on solid footing. “So this is very satisfying.”

Jacobson will try to lead MLK to its fifth straight league title against Flushing, which beat Beacon 3-1. The teams meet at St. John’s on Sunday at 7 p.m.
