An MMA fighter has been suspended after posting a video of himself throwing up to help cut weight before a recent bout.
Adam Piccolotti was hit with a six-month ban from the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation for a since deleted Instagram video showing him vomiting before his unanimous decision win over Georgi Karakhanyan at Bellator 274 on Saturday at Mohegan Sun, according to multiple reports. MMA Junkie was first to report the suspension.
The video, according to MMA Junkie, showed him crawling out of a sauna and spewing onto a towel on the floor. Piccolotti also stated in the caption to the video he threw up “20-plus times through the night.” The Mohegan Tribe deemed the 33-year-old lightweight fighter’s weight-cut methods as “unnecessarily dangerous.” Piccolotti was also handed a $2,500 fine. He will need to be cleared by a nephrologist in order to compete again.
“I reviewed the video and determined the process was unnecessarily dangerous,” Tribe director of athletic regulation Mike Mazzulli told MMA Junkie. “We’re always concerned for fighter safety and weight cutting. Hopefully this will be a learning experience. Fortunately, he didn’t die.”

The video, according to ESPN, showed them picking Piccolotti off the floor and guiding him back onto the portable sauna in order to cut more weight.
Mazzulli told ESPN that the suspension will be upheld in the U.S. and Canada by in the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports.
“I’m concerned about his kidneys,” Mazzulli said. “Something has to be done about these unnecessarily dangerous weight cuts.”
