The Ultimate Fighting Championship was knocked out Monday by a judge who denied its bid to bring mixed-martial arts fighting to New York state.

UFC had sought a preliminary injunction against the state, which has banned the brutal fighting sport, that would have permitted an April event at Madison Square Garden.

Manhattan federal Judge Kimba Wood denied the request in a brief ruling filed Monday and said she’ll issue a longer opinion at a later date.

Last September, UFC sued Attorney General Eric Schneiderman over a law forbidding the sport, saying it should be ruled unconstitutional because it is “so badly written.”

Professional MMA is legal in every state but New York. But Gov. Cuomo supports it and included it in his budget proposal this month.

“This is a big sport and it’s growing,” Cuomo said last year. “It can create jobs and economic growth in the state of New York — and I’m interested in it.”

The state Legislature would have to approve the sport to become legal.
