Jon Jones is getting the fight he wants.
UFC president Dana White told TMZ in a video published Friday that Jones will face the winner of the March 27 heavyweight title fight between champion Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou at UFC 260.
“It should happen this year,” White said. “It depends, if that fight with Stipe and Francis goes off before summer, then we can have that [with Jones] happen in the summertime.”
A fight between the undefeated Jones and the Miocic-Ngannou winner appeared to be where the division was headed after Jones vacated his light heavyweight championship in August.
“We know what he wants,” White said. “He wants the winner of Stipe and Francis, so that fight has got to happen first.”
This would be the 33-year-old Jones’ first fight at heavyweight. He is considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists ever but has had his career sullied by doping violations and multiple arrests, including for aggravated DWI and negligent use of a firearm in March.
