The NYPD football team blew out their Philadelphia rivals 37-0 at Lincoln Financial Field Saturday to become the repeat champs of the National Public Safety Football League.
Starting quarterback Police Office Randy Litrell, who scored the initial touchdown with a 20-yard run, was awarded the Stephen McAllister Award as most valuable player of the season-ending contest.
Running back Eric Hernandez scored off a 30-yard run, backup QB Lavar Stockton dove into the end zone from a yard out, cornerback Billy Dunlap parlayed an interception he snared into a 62-yard TD, and running back Stephen McGuire – a former University of Miami standout – ran 32 yards to another score.
Rounding out the offensive effort was kicker Tony Balcan, who added a 34-year-old field goal to his four successful extra-point conversions.
Lineman Larry Dunn sacked Philly’s QB once and forced a fumble, while Matt Hellman and Joe Lomangino both made key interceptions, and Joe Keenan’s block of a punt led to a score.
Sgt. Mike Jioia, the Finest’s coach, accepted the game trophy for his team, which has won five national championships since the league’s inception in 1997.
