ALBANY – Joe Namath yesterday labeled Eagle holdout wide receiver Terrell Owens “very childish” for Owens’ verbal attack on Philly QB Donovan McNabb.

“You’ve got to talk those things over first in the locker room,” said the former Jet QB, who was in Albany lobbying for the proposed west side stadium.

“It’s very childish.”

Owens, in discussing his desire for a new contract, had said, “I wasn’t the one who got tired in the Super Bowl” – an obvious dig at McNabb.

McNabb, without mentioning Owens, responded that he doesn’t “play games in the media,” and that if anyone has a problem with him, “they can call me.”

“I agree with what McNabb had to say,” Namath said.

Meanwhile, Namath was more sympathetic to former Jet kicker Doug Brien, who was released after the team drafted Ohio State’s Mike Nugent with its first pick. Brien missed two late field-goal attempts against Pittsburgh in the playoffs, dooming the Jets’ chances to reach the AFC title game.

“He’s a damn good kicker, and he’s going to find a job,” Namath said of Brien. “I hope [his release] wasn’t influenced by the missed field goals in Pittsburgh,” Namath said. “We got to Pittsburgh when San Diego’s kicker missed [in the previous playoff game]. Kickers miss, but I think [Brien’s] track record was awfully nice.”
