The Nets’ plan was to keep their team intact. Of course, if a chance arose to make improvements, the Nets would have to look at it. And so they are talking to Phoenix free agent Antonio McDyess. But looking, talking and getting are different matters.

“I think they would be in the second tier,” said McDyess’ agent Tony Dutt last night. “We’ve had a little conversation, but I think it would be hard, given the time frame and all. I think they had to check it out in case they had a problem re-signing Jayson (Williams).”
