No Pan Intended clinched Horse of the Year honors by capturing the $542,500 Breeders Crown 3-year-old colt & gelding pace last night at the Meadowlands.
Trained by Ivan Sugg and driven by David Miller, No Pan Intended moved to the lead past the quarter and instantly took pressure from Pronger (5-2). After putting Pronger away, the 4-5 favorite opened up at the top of the lane and held off a late charge by Escape The Wind (5-1) to score the head victory in a lifetime best 1:50 3/5.
“I came off the last turn and I asked him and he opened right up and through the stretch I didn’t hear Escape the Wind until way late, but my horse fought very game right to the wire,” Miller said.
No Pan Intended is the first Triple Crown champ to win the Breeders Crown the same year.
The rest of the pacing champs were Pans Culottes (two-year-old filly), I Am A Fool (two-year-old colt & gelding) and Burning Point (three-year-old filly).
The winning trotters were Forever Starlet (two-year-old filly), Cantab Hall (two-year-old colt & gelding), Stroke Play (three-year-old filly) and Mr. Muscleman (three-year-old colt & gelding).
