GIANT NOTES
If Michael Strahan breaks Lawrence Taylor’s official Giants sack record on Sunday at the Meadowlands, the game will not be stopped.
Instead, the Giants will make an announcement over the public address system and will request the officials save the game ball for Strahan, according to Giants vice president Pat Hanlon.
The only time an NFL game is stopped is when a league record is broken.
Still, when asked about what the crowd reaction might be if he were to record another sack Sunday, Strahan trotted out his signature gap-toothed smile as he again acknowledged how special it would be to do it at home.
“It would be even better,” said Strahan, tied with LT with 132½ career sacks. “I think to do it here at home in front of this crowd would be probably the best thing that could happen as far as I am concerned.”
There is some question if Strahan is really even breaking the Giants’ sack record. While Taylor is credited with 132½ sacks, he actually had 142 in his career.
Taylor’s 9½ sacks in his rookie year of 1981 do not count because the NFL did not recognize sacks as an official statistic until the following season.
Either way, Strahan said his focus is not on the record.
“I’m worried about winning,” Strahan said. “In the course of that, if I can get a quarterback, that’s great.”

Against the Texans, the Giants will potentially turn to the big play. The Houston defense plays Vegas-style – it likes to gamble.
“They play a lot of man-to-man defense so we hopefully can take advantage of that,” Amani Toomer said.
Eli Manning said, “They’ve been a team that’s been blitzing a lot these past few games so we have to be prepared for a lot of different looks and a lot of different blitzes.” . . . Injury report: DE Osi Umenyiora (hip flexor), LB Brandon Short (quad), CB Sam Madison (hamstring) and WR David Tyree (ankle) are still listed as questionable for Sunday.
