After hosting its Round of 16 home leg at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday, NYCFC announced Friday it will do the same for the next round of the CONCACAF Champions League.

The club had been “operating under the impression” that Yankee Stadium would be available for the quarterfinal round, but extensive field renovations there have scuppered those plans. If the club advances further in the tournament, Yankee Stadium will be unavailable due to MLB scheduling, while Citi Field — which does have some availability — would be the club’s preferred option.

The club will play host to Tigres, a Mexican team who were finalists in last year’s tournament, on March 11 in Harrison, N.J. for the round’s first leg.

“While again, we recognize the inconvenience [of playing outside of New York], we hope that as many fans as possible can attend the game against Tigres and support the team for such an important knock-out game,” CEO Brad Sims said in a release.

NYCFC said about 3,000 fans (4,396 announced attendance) attended Wednesday’s second-leg victory against San Carlos — a figure they were pleased with considering poor conditions and the inconvenience of traveling to New Jersey for the match.
