US goalie Hope Solo took her foot from her mouth long enough to offer an apology of sorts after branding the Swedish team “cowards” after getting booted from the Games Scandinavian squad.

“Losing sucks, I’m really bad at it,” the hot-tempered goalkeeper admitted on Twitter Friday, as she posted the “full context” of her shameless comments about the Swedes.

“I’ve won and lost a lot of games in my career. And not all wins have been pretty. Sometimes it’s just finding a way to win that matters the most and tonight Sweden found a way to beat us,” Solo added to Sports Illustrated.

The US team and reigning Olympic champs lost to Sweden in penalty kicks, 4-3, Friday after a 1-1 draw following 90 minutes and extra time at Mane Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia, Brazil.

The historic loss marked the first time the women’s team exited a major international competition before the semifinals.

Solo was quick to blast the Swedes and their coach Pia Sundhage’s play-it-safe style.

“They didn’t want to pass the ball. They didn’t want to play great soccer…We had that style of play when Pia was our coach,” she said.

“I thought that we played a courageous game,” Solo said afterwards. “I thought we had many opportunities on goal. I think we showed a lot of heart. We came back from a goal down. I’m very proud of this team.”

She added: “I also think we played a bunch of cowards.”

Former US team -co-captain Julie Foudy blasted Solo’s remarks saying, “To call them (Sweden) cowards for playing a tactically smart game is ridiculous and classless.”

Since then, Brazilian fans used every chance to boo her throughout the team’s first few matches.
