Lindsey Vonn believes she will get her Olympics swan song after all.
The famed Alpine skier confirmed Tuesday she completely ruptured her ACL in an emotional press conference after crashing on a course in Switzerland and injuring her left knee Friday.
“I’m leaning on everyone on my team, my physical therapist, my doctors, my coaches, my trainer, everyone is working as hard as they can to get me to a place where I feel confident, and I’m prepared to just give my best. And, of course, what I did today on the hill is not necessarily a great test, I still need to do the downhill training run, but I also know what my knee has felt like with previous injuries in the gym, and what it’s felt like during all the physical tests and I can say I feel a lot better right now than I have in the past,” Vonn told reporters from Italy.
“This is not an unknown for me, I’ve done this before, I wish I wasn’t in this position, but this is where I am and I will do the best I can.”
Lindsey Vonn revealed at a press conference on Feb. 3, 2026, that she sustained an ACL injury ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics. REUTERSWhen asked how she plans to train for the events at the Milan Cortina Games moving forward, Vonn said she will take things “day by day.”
“My goal right now is obviously the downhill, I have to see how it feels. If it’s stable and I feel confident, I’ll continue to race, that is my goal, obviously, but I can’t tell you that answer until I actually ski 85 mph and then I’ll tell you,” she said, smiling.
Vonn, 41, is slated to participate in Thursday’s first official women’s downhill training, with the event itself getting underway Sunday.
The Olympian, who won gold in the downhill and bronze in the super-G at the 2010 Vancouver Games, said “instability in the joint” is her biggest concern entering this year’s Winter Games.
“As long as I can keep it stable, as long as I have the brace on, I have no swelling and my muscles are activating appropriately, I should be OK,” Vonn said Tuesday. “I can’t guarantee what it’s going to feel like once I get into some of the big turns, and that’s what we’ll have to see after the first training round.”
The women’s team combined event Tuesday and the women’s super-G competition Feb. 12 are the other competitions on Vonn’s calendar for Italy.
“My intention,” Vonn said, “is to race everything.”

Vonn was one of three skiers to crash in the World Cup race, according to the Associated Press, which noted “difficult conditions with low visibility” that began in Friday’s downhill event.
The event was canceled in the aftermath of Vonn’s crash as conditions worsened.

“I’m not letting this slip through my fingers,” she said Thursday.
A three-time Olympic medalist, Vonn retired from the sport in 2019 amid injuries.

Vonn confirmed in December she would compete in Italy — eight years after her last Olympic appearance in Pyeongchang, where she was awarded bronze in the downhill.
“This would be the best comeback I’ve done so far,” Vonn said. “Definitely the most dramatic.”
