Opening strong
One problem that often befalls fantasy owners is overcoaching. You think too hard about the matchups, you start a sleeper in hopes he runs roughshod over a weak defense.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnât. But itâs much easier to engage in this type of guesswork once you have a working data table.
In Week 1 of the NFL season, you donât know which teams are legitimate Super Bowl and playoff contenders â let alone which ones can hinder the fantasy performance of your players.
So in Week 1, the Fantasy Tracker says go with the top guys you drafted to start. If youâre still in a boggle, hereâs a couple of suggestions:

STARTâEM
Chad Pennington (QB) Jets, at Titans â If you weak at QB, Pennington stands to have one of his better days against a Titans team in flux.
Jamal Lewis (RB) Ravens, at Bucs â Tampaâs defensive reputation is longstanding. But one reoccurring weakness is stopping a strong, burly running game â exactly what Lewis will present.
DeShaun Foster (RB) Panthers, vs. Falcons â Had two 100-yard games during regular season last year â both vs. Falcons.
Brian Westbrook (RB) Eagles, at Texans â For future reference: Start every back vs. Texans until itâs proven this is a bad idea (yeah, like thatâs gonna happen!).
Kurt Warner (QB) Cards, vs. 49ers â If he canât throw to his two All-Pro WRs against this defense, Cardinals are in for a long season.
Roy Williams (WR) Lions, vs. Seahawks â This fourth-round sleeper will start turning heads early.
SIT-EM
Willie Parker (RB) Steelers, vs. Dolphins (Thurs.) â With QB Ben Roethlisberger out, Fish will be keying on the run.
Hines Ward (WR) Steelers, vs. Dolphins (Thurs.) â With QB Charlie Batch in, those balls thrown to Hines might not be near enough to catch.
Willis McGahee (RB) Bills, at Patriots â Think the Pats are worried about J.P. Losman at quarterback? Neither do we.
Drew Bledsoe (QB) Cowboys, vs. Jaguars â Swarming defense that can get at the QB? A QB that canât get away? T.O. or no T.O., Bledsoe has a knack for throwing to the wrong team when in duress. And the FT expects some duress.
Mike Bell or Tatum Bell (RBs) Broncos, at Rams â Weâre not down on the Denver running game. Weâre down on coach Mike Shanahanâs blatant anti-fantasy stance. He refuses to make it easy for us fantasy gamers when trying to choose which Bronco back to start. Until we have better footing, step away from the Denver runners. But if youâre forced to start one or the other, go with Tatum. If nothing else, the FT likes him better in the long term.
