Matt Wieters hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Orioles blunted the Rays’ playoff push with a 4-2 comeback victory last night in Baltimore.

Evan Longoria homered for the Rays, whose five-game winning streak ended. Coupled with Boston’s 18-6 win over the Blue Jays, the Rays fells four games back in the AL wild-card race.

The Rays led 2-1 in the sixth before the Orioles rallied to snap a three-game skid.

Johnny Damon, by stealing second base in the second inning, became the ninth player in baseball history with 200 homers and 400 steals.

Red Sox 18, Blue Jays 6

In Boston, the Red Sox ended a five-game skid as Tim Wakefield (7-6) earned his 200th win on his eighth try and Dustin Pedroia hit two homers in their highest-scoring game of the season. The 45-year-old knuckleballer is the 108th pitcher with 200 wins.

In Chicago, Justin Verlander pitched seven strong innings to earn his major league-best 23rd win as Detroit notched its 11th consecutive victory. Verlander is the first Tiger since Hal Newhouser in 1946 to win 11 consecutive starts and the AL’s first 23-game winner since Barry Zito in 2002.

In Oakland, Howie Kendrick homered twice as the Angels remained three games behind Texas in the AL West.

Rangers 10, Athletics 4

In Texas, David Murphy had a pair of solo home runs among his four hits and Josh Hamilton belted his 20th homer.

Cardinals 6, Pirates 4

In Pittsburgh, Nick Punto hit a go-ahead double in the ninth inning and St. Louis overcame three errors by first baseman Albert Pujols to remain 4½games behind Atlanta in the NL wild-card race.

Braves 7, Marlins 1

In Atlanta, Brian McCann and Dan Uggla each hit a three-run homer as the Braves snapped a four-game skid.

Astros 5, Phillies 2

In Houston, Clint Barmes hit a three-run homer and J.A. Happ pitched six solid innings against his former team, preventing the Phillies from wrapping up a playoff spot.
