PIGSKIN PROFIT
ARMY vs. NAVY 2:30, Ch. 2
Where: Philadelphia.
Line: Navy -13.
Angle: Sorry, Alabama-Auburn, Lehigh-Lafayette, Ohio State-Michigan, this is the greatest rivalry in college football. Series stands at 49-48-7 in favor of Army, but Navy coach Paul Johnson has dominated his two games against the Black Knights, winning both meetings by combined score of 92-18. Navy (8-2) is bowl bound. Army (2-8) snapped 19-game losing streak this year under first-year coach Bobby Ross.
Eyes on: Army RB Carlton Jones; Navy FB Kyle Eckel.
PREDICTION: Navy 28, Army 13.
VIRGINIA TECH at MIAMI 1 p.m., Ch. 7
Line: Miami -7.
Angle: Address has changed but Tech and Miami now inhabit ACC penthouse. Winner claims the league crown and almost surely goes to the Sugar Bowl. Miami (8-2) is almost unbeatable in Orange Bowl when it has something to play for. Tech (9-2) has to establish some balance on offense. Health of RB Mike Imoh is paramount.
Eyes on: Virginia Tech CB Jimmy Williams; Miami WR Lance Leggett.
PREDICTION: Miami 34, Virginia Tech 20.
UCLA at USC 4:30, Ch. 7
Line: USC -22.
Angle: How’s this for motivation? Trojans (11-0) can lock up a spot in national championship game, clinch perfect season and extend win streak to 21 games. Matt Leinart, coming off 400-yard passing performance against Notre Dame, can make another strong Heisman statement. UCLA (6-4) has lost three of its last five and its defense is lousy.
Eyes on: UCLA RB Maurice Drew; USC RB Reggie Bush.
PREDICTION: USC 35, UCLA 7.
TENNESSEE vs. AUBURN 6 p.m., Ch. 2
Where: Atlanta.
Line: Auburn -13 1/2.
Angle: Auburn (11-0) is in the most difficult of positions. If it wins, it still probably won’t get to play for the national championship unless Oklahoma and/ or USC loses. Tigers already have beaten Tennessee, 34-10. Vols (9-2) are down to third-string QB.
Eyes on: Tennessee LB Kevin Burnett; Auburn QB Jason Campbell.
PREDICTION: Auburn 24, Tennessee 20.
COLORADO vs. OKLAHOMA 8 p.m., Ch. 7
Where: Kansas City.
Line: Oklahoma -21 1/2.
Angle: This is where it all unraveled for Sooners last season. They went into Big XII title game undefeated and seemingly invincible and Kansas State smacked them. Sooners (11-0) are undefeated once again and playing a Colorado team (7-4) that is a heavy underdog. The big question is, who is OU’s Heisman Trophy candidate – Jason White or Adrian Peterson?
Eyes on: Colorado RB Bobby Purify; Oklahoma DL Dan Cody.
PREDICTION: Oklahoma 42, Colorado 13.
Last week: 2-3; Overall: 34-23-3.
