If the Knicks and Nets adopted this policy their players would soon be broke.
The players on Wigan, of the English Premier League, have decided to refund the ticket money for fans who traveled to North London watch their team get torched by Tottenham 9-1 on Sunday. It’s estimated that the total number of Wigan fans was less than 1,000, but each player would be dolling out a five-figure sum.
The epic soccer blowout included eight second-half goals from Tottenham and five from Jermain Defoe.
“We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday, and this is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty,” Wigan defender Mario Melchiot said. “As a group of professionals, we were embarrassed by the way we performed. We feel it was below our standards and this is something we feel we owe to the fans.”
