Williams Jerez’s performance Wednesday afternoon in the Monroe Tournament quarterfinals was the latest example for why scouts are raving about Grand Street Campus’ center fielder.
The senior left-handed hitter blasted two homers and drove in six runs, leading the fourth-seeded Wolves to a 10-0 six-inning, run-rule victory over No. 5 John Adams.
“He was a one-man wrecking crew,” Grand Street coach Melvin Martinez said of the 6-foot-3 Jerez, considered the area’s top prospect.
Jose Cuas added two hits and an RBI, Basael McDonald tripled and scored three runs and Geraldo Gonzalez struck out eight and allowed two hits in six shutout innings. Grand Street, now 3-1 in the tournament, takes on No. 1 Monroe in the semifinals Thursday at 10 a.m.
No. 10 William Bryant 11, No. 6 South Bronx 0: Nick Alvarez allowed just two hits in five shutout innings and fanned six, Joseph Cox notched two hits and Adonis Lao and Christian Aubry each drove in two runs for Bryant, the seventh seed in the tournament which faces No. 3 Lehman Thursday at James Monroe in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. and is 3-1 this week. Shorthanded due to a senior trip, South Bronx went 3-1 in the tournament.
GEORGE WASHINGTON HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
No. 2 George Washington 8, Taft 2: Erick Roman tripled and drove in two runs and Hugo Mercedes allowed just one hit in six innings for the win for George Washington, which finished pool play 5-0. The Trojans face Taft (2-3) in the semifinals tomorrow at 10 a.m.
John F. Kennedy 9, Gregorio Luperon 8: Williams Martinez tripled, doubled and drove in five runs, Pedro Taveras and Erich Gonzalez each scored twice and Roulin Perdomo picked up the win in relief for Kennedy (1-3-1), which failed to reach the tournament semifinals and finished sixth. Luperon (2-3) takes home fifth-place honors.
Norman Thomas 9, Walton 8: Norman Thomas rallied for three runs in the seventh to finish 2-2-1 in the tournament and will meet Walton (2-2-1) tomorrow in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. Ronny Santana hit a two-run homer for Walton and Rileymar Klaber had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run.
BROOKLYN HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT UPDATE: Madison will meet New Utrecht at 10 a.m. and Telecommunications takes on New Dorp at 12:30 p.m. in the semifinals Thursday at Bay 8th.
On Wednesday, Madison blanked Lincoln, 14-0, as John Ho had three hits and three RBIs and Mike Fitzpatrick homered and had two RBIs for the Knights, who topped New Dorp, 7-1, on Tuesday as Joe Cali tossed a complete-game six-hitter and Joe Abadia tallied two RBIs.
Also on Wednesday, Telecom topped McKee/Staten Island Tech, 10-0; New Utrecht got by Port Richmond, 5-4; and New Dorp knocked off Midwood, 8-1.

Arts & Business 4, Transit Tech 2: Dionicio Rodriguez doubled twice and scored twice and Omar Cuevas scored two runs and drove in another for Arts & Business (2-6) in Queens B Central. Transit Tech (5-2) won the second game of the doubleheader, 10-9.
Chelsea 4, Seward Park 3: Kevin Espejo, Joseph Donohue and Kenneth Villavicencio each drove in a run, Anthony Reyes and Camilo Pena each scored a run and Nobel Coste struck out nine in 5 1/3 for Chelsea (2-4) in Manhattan B South. Seward Park (2-3) won the second game of the doubleheader, 8-7.
Info Tech 7, Beach Channel 6: Areeb Keen and Edgardo Cabrera each drove in two runs, Efrain Malave scored three runs and Zephin Bay had two hits and scored a run for Info Tech (1-6) in Queens B North. Beach Channel falls to 4-1 in Queens B South.
